At the moment i find myself lacking motivation do any design work outside tafe hours. Maybe i will be more enthusiastic after building a portfolio website because i will have a place to upload work to that doesn't have 'fine print' attached. I have been looking at newstoday more often but not finding much of other peoples work that interests me. I'm developing a dislike for advertising (more specifically the purpose) and am unsure of where i will 'fit in' within the design industry. I prefer functional design rather then form design so maybe interactive games/software design.

i'm still unsure of the purpose of this blog. what am i supposed to be blogging about? is this suppose to be a clone of what Newstoday does? screw this i'm gonna go watch supernatural.

Bleh

Have been lacking motivation to do anything but atleast WOW time has expired so i should have plenty of time to experiment with flash and do other work. I did buy three 45cm stretched blank canvases and plan to paint them eventually. I'm still feeling lazy so i'll check newstoday out for a while the do a bit of caligraphy. (why am i posting this crap!?)

Went to Young today and checked out the Chinese Memorial Gardens. I borrowed my fiancee's camera and took some photos. I hve never really been interested in photography before starting the course but actually found it very rewarding taking the shots then seeing how they turned out afterwards. I will have to get a decent digital camera and take more photos. Probably should do a little research and find out HOW to take decent photos also, lol. I have uploaded a few photos which i think are OK since i am a n00b photographer. I have adjusted the levels in Photoshop, to the extreme on the darkhorse shot. If anyone actually every actually visits this, why you would want to i have no idea, but if anyone does then plz feel free to leave comments.

I have been looking at business' logos lately and there seem to be lot of them that ren't really 'saying' much. Isn't the purpose of a logo to be a visual representation and symbol that communicates information about the business? Either i need to learn and understand more about logo design (which i do) or there are a fair few poorly designed logos around. I was reading on website that there are 3 main types of corporate logos; graphic logos, typographical logos and hybrid. I have a preference for typographical logos but i guess each has its place. As a logo design exercise i should design a heap of logos for myself. While i'm on the subject of things i SHOULD do, i also need to quit playing World of Warcraft for a while so i can become a 1337 flash developer. Also have to find a client for major project.

This blogging thing is not so bad, i'll just have to stop being lazy and make an effort to keep posting.

Eye on Design

Today it was more of an ear on design. In class we watched AND listened to The Shawshank Redemption as part of Music Listening Skills module. It was interesting to notice how much the music impacted the movie. I should develop a much greater understanding and appreciation for the sound component of digital media by the end of this module. I also checked out a portfolio website that was linked on NewsToday.com and it had some great work on it. I especially liked the typography work the artist had done. Eye on Design

The purpose of this blog is to encourage me to spend approximately an hour each day being aware and looking at design. This is part of my Diploma of Digital Media course at TAFE. An hour a day seems a little obsessive to me but what the hell, i guess i HAVE to do it.

This might cover things like looking at websites, TV ads, packaging at the supermarket, watching movies and stuff like that.
